Before Laser Hair Removal

Avoid Sun Exposure: Limit sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks before your treatment. Sunburned or tanned skin can increase the risk of side effects, such as skin discoloration or burns. Always use broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Shave the Treatment Area: Shave the area to be treated the day before or on the day of your appointment. This ensures that the laser energy is primarily focused on the hair follicles beneath the skin rather than on the visible hair above the surface.

Avoid Certain Skincare Products: Discontinue the use of skincare products that can increase skin sensitivity, such as retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids, in the days leading up to your appointment. These products can make your skin more prone to irritation during the laser treatment.

Appointment Time: To ensure a smooth and efficient experience, we kindly request that you arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time so that you can complete our return and learn form.

After Laser Hair Removal

Protect Your Skin from Sun: After treatment, your skin may be more sensitive to sunlight. Use sunscreen with a high SPF to protect the treated area from UV radiation. Avoid direct sun exposure, and if you must go outside, wear protective clothing.

Follow Post-Treatment Instructions: Pay close attention to any post-treatment instructions provided by your therapist. These include avoiding hot baths, saunas, or vigorous exercise for a day or two after treatment. Keep the treated area clean and moisturise as recommended.

Avoid Waxing or Plucking: While it's fine to shave between sessions, avoid waxing, plucking, or using depilatory creams on the treated area, as these methods can interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment.

Stay Hydrated and Moisturise: Keep your skin well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and apply a gentle, non-irritating moisturiser to the treated area to soothe any temporary redness or irritation.

Be Patient: It may take some time to see the full results of your laser hair removal treatment. Be patient and continue with your scheduled sessions for the best outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Hair Removal

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal is not considered permanently hair-free but rather a long-term hair reduction method. Ongoing treatments are likely to be necessary to maintain desired results.

What are the benefits of laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal offers benefits such as thinner and finer hair, reduced hair growth, and a decrease in ingrown hairs and follicle infections.

How many laser sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required can vary depending on the treated area, with recommendations ranging from 8-12 sessions initially and then maintenance sessions every 2-3 months.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Laser hair removal is generally described as less painful than waxing. Throughout the treatment you may experience some warmth, and sensations similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin but this is not unbearable. All of our therapists are extremely well trained, and our advanced diode cooling technology will help minimise any discomfort during the treatment.

Can laser hair removal treat all hair colours and skin types?

Laser hair removal can treat most skin types and colour, however it is not suitable for white, grey, red or light blonde hairs as laser is not able to penetrate the skin due to the lack of pigment (melanin), for these clients waxing is a great alternative.

Do I need to shave before my laser treatments?
Yes, we kindly request that you shave the treatment area before your scheduled appointment. If you find yourself running short on time or simply forgot, please inform our front desk staff upon arrival. For your convenience, we offer razors for $5. Due to our booking constraints, our therapists may not have the time to perform shaving before a treatment.

Is laser hair removal suitable for teenagers or individuals under 18?
We generally recommend waiting for laser hair removal treatments until clients have gone through puberty. During the teenage years, the body undergoes significant hormonal changes, which can impact hair growth patterns and makes the results more unpredictable. They are also more likely to need more sessions to achieve the desired results.
